Never a Truer Word Said

Posted by blandable on March 1, 2008

These are some quotes by famous individuals that just strike home with me:

“Work is the curse of the drinking classes”

Oscar Wilde, In Life of Oscar Wilde, H. Pearson

“The brain is a wonderful organ. It starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop until you get into the office.”

                              Robert Frost (1874 – 1963)

“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.”

                              George Bernard Shaw (1856 – 1950)

“Insanity in individuals is something rare – but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.”

                             Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 – 1900)

“I do not want people to be agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them.”

                             Jane Austen

Magic Eye, My Foot!

Posted by blandable on March 1, 2008

The bane of the 90’s. The biggest waste of money ever. The sole reason I was mocked for a whole semester during high school. I was the only one out of 200 kids in my year that could not distinguish the 3D images in Magic Eye pictures. Oh the embarrassment, oh the shame. As though as a disgruntled teenager I didn’t have enough to stress about, some idiot brought Magic Eye puzzles into trend and I lived the repercussions. For hours I stared and glared at tiny stars, splodges of paint, specks and multicolored dots, all in search for the images hidden within. To my ever lasting shame, I just couldn’t do it.

Ten years later, out of random boredom at 2am in the morning, I decided to face my old adversary once more. I couldn’t be bothered printing out the Magic Eye puzzles, so I just spent the last 15 mins with my nose pressed to my computer screen. What knowledge have I gained from this experience? Well, I now have a headache and, I think, a permanent tick in my left eye. I still can’t figure these puzzles out. I shall forever be kept in a world reduced to single vision – to the the splodges but not the picture, to the surface, but not the depths. Oh squiggly colorful picture, what 3D secrets do you hide? …Stupid, bloody magic eye crap.
